The interview is like dating. We dress to impress and showcase our best qualities. Sometimes we hit it off with the interviewer and then there are times where we have to play hard to get because desperation is not a good color on anybody.

Remember that you are also interviewing the company to see whether you’d fit in well. Know that the company needs you as much as you need them. So, know your worth.

Don’t forget to do thorough research of the company before the interview. During the interview, subtly mention what you know and what you like about the company. Again, it’s like dating and everyone likes to be flattered.

Give the interviewer time to sell themselves too. You could also ask questions about benefits, frequency of performance reviews and raises, perks, etc.

Make sure you mention your salary expectation in the first interview. Again, know your worth. If your expectations are not met, negotiate. Be ready to even turn down the job because if the company doesn’t see your worth, maybe it is not the best fit for you.
